Moon line astrocartography meaning
What a Moon line means in astrocartography on each angle: the Moon IC instant home, Moon DC caretaking, Moon AC exposure, MC warmth, and in Human Design mode.

A Moon line marks where the Moon was rising, setting, overhead, or underfoot at the moment you were born. The Moon governs emotional life, so its lines run closer to the surface than most. They also move fastest of any body: the Moon changes angle roughly every couple of hours as the Earth turns. That's part of why a Moon line can make a place feel intensely, almost embarrassingly personal.
This page covers the Moon on each of the four angles. If lines in general are new to you, start with the hub guide: it explains orb and angle type, the two things that decide whether any line matters for a place.
Moon IC line: the instant-home line
A Moon IC line tends to feel like an instant sense of belonging: the rare place that feels like home almost immediately. The IC is where a planet works in private, in home and roots, and the Moon is at its most natural there. Deep domestic comfort is the theme. That closeness cuts both ways, since old emotional patterns and family history can also surface faster there than you'd like. Of the four, this is the Moon line people most often move to.
Moon DC line: caretaking relationships
A Moon DC line colors relationships with a caretaking or needy quality, depending on which side of it you're standing on. The DC brings a planet in through other people, and the Moon there means you may find yourself the one being looked after, or the one doing the looking after, sometimes both at once. Nurturing partnerships form easily here; so do lopsided ones.
Moon AC line: emotions at the surface
On the AC, the Moon makes you more emotionally legible to everyone around you: moods sit closer to the surface and are harder to hide. The AC is where a planet leads, so the Moon here means feeling comes first, before persona. Instant familiarity with strangers is common. So is feeling more exposed than you're used to.
Moon MC line: public-facing warmth
On the MC, the Moon favors public-facing nurturing work: teaching, hospitality, anything where being warm and approachable is the job. The MC is the public, career-facing angle, and the Moon there tends to make you popular in a soft-edged way. It's a strong line for care professions and a comfortable one for anyone whose work runs on trust.
How close counts
Lines have an orb, a band of influence that tapers with distance rather than cutting off. And a Moon line rarely acts alone: where it meets another planet's line in a crossing, both stories blend at that spot. The hub guide covers reading proximity and crossings in full.
Moon in Human Design mode
Switch the map to Human Design and the Moon is drawn twice. Once from your birth moment (Personality, the conscious side) and once from about 88 days before it (Design, the unconscious side). Two casts means two sets of lines, always: the Earth had turned under the sky between the two moments, so the same planet rises and sets over different ground. With the Moon the themes differ too: it covers the whole zodiac in those 88 days, so the two Moons land in unrelated gates. In Human Design the Moon is your driving force, what keeps you moving. A Design-side Moon line is felt in the body before you have words for it, a pull toward a place you cannot quite explain. A Personality-side Moon line shows up as what you tell yourself you need. Same planet, two different volumes.

Moon in Human Design mode, one chart, nothing else showing. Solid lines are the Personality cast (birth moment); dashed lines are the Design cast (88 degrees of the Sun earlier). They do not overlap because they are two different moments: the Earth had turned under the sky between them, so the same planet rises and sets over different ground.
The map labels every Human Design line as Design or Personality. Read the label before you read the theme. And hold the doctrine line the Human Design guide holds: your bodygraph does not move when you do. A place amplifies a gate you already carry. It never hands you one you do not.
Your Moon is not everyone's Moon
Everything above is the general meaning of a Moon line. Your own chart tunes it. In astrology, Moon's sign says how it goes about its business, its house says where in life it is rooted, and its dignity says how strong its hand is. A Moon at home in its own sign carries a line differently from one in detriment. In Human Design the tuning is the gate and the line: which of the 64 gates Moon sits in names the specific theme the line carries, and the line number, 1 to 6, says how that theme tends to play out. None of this changes where the line falls on the map. It changes what the line is about.
Two people with a Moon IC line through the same town. One has the Moon in Gate 27, Caring: home there is about feeding and looking after people. The other has the Moon in Gate 52, Inaction: home there is about stillness, the mountain, sitting with nothing to do. Both are the instant-home line. They are not the same house.
ELA Map reads all of it. Tap any Moon line and the panel shows the sign and house behind it; the heatmap reading shows how its dignity weighs in. Switch to Human Design mode and the same line shows its gate, its line number, and whether it came from the Design or the Personality side.
