Chiron and Node lines in astrocartography

Chiron line and Node line meaning in astrocartography: the same four-angle logic as the planets, healing and growth themes, and the Nodes in Human Design mode.

ELA Map showing every planet's astrocartography lines at once for a single birth chart, each body drawn as its own colored rising, setting, overhead, and underfoot line sweeping across the whole globe

Every body's four angles, drawn across the Earth for one birth chart. Chiron and the Nodes are drawn in the same weave as the planets.

Yes: Chiron, the Nodes, and other chart points have astrocartography lines too. Any point in your chart with a longitude and declination can be projected the same way as a planet. ELA Map includes Chiron and the North/South Nodes alongside the traditional ten bodies. They follow the same rising, setting, overhead, underfoot logic as every planetary line, just with themes specific to each point.

The mechanics are identical to the planets': each point gets four lines, one per angle (AC, DC, MC, IC), each line has an orb rather than a hard edge, and the angle decides how the point's theme expresses. The hub guide covers that four-angle grammar in full; this page covers what the points themselves bring to it.

Chiron lines: old wounds and healing

Chiron's territory is old wounds and healing. A Chiron line marks places where that material is closer to the surface: what's unresolved tends to become visible there, and so does the path to working with it. Read the angle the same way as for any planet: on the AC that's a first-person process, on the DC it arrives through relationships, on the MC it colors the public role, and on the IC it works through home and family.

Node lines: growth direction versus familiar patterns

The Nodes come as a pair, and their themes mirror each other: the North Node points toward growth direction, the South Node toward familiar patterns. A North Node line marks places that pull you toward the unfamiliar, stretching territory of your chart; a South Node line marks places where the well-worn groove is easiest to fall back into. Neither is simply good or bad. One stretches you, the other rests you, and knowing which is which is the point of looking.

Chiron and the Nodes in Human Design mode

Switch the map to Human Design and Chiron disappears. It is not part of the Human Design bodygraph, which reads the Sun, Earth, Moon, the Nodes, and Mercury through Pluto, so there is no Chiron line in Human Design mode. Its healing theme has no gate to carry it. The Nodes, on the other hand, matter more in Human Design than they do in most astrology. They are direction and environment: the stage your life is played out on, and the kind of surroundings that support you. Human Design splits them by age. The South Node is the environment of the first half of life, up to the Uranus opposition somewhere between 38 and 43. After that the North Node takes over, and the environment that suits you changes. Both Nodes are drawn twice, once from your birth moment (Personality, the conscious side) and once from about 88 days before it (Design, the unconscious side), and two casts means two sets of lines, always, because the Earth had turned under the sky between the two moments. The Nodes also move enough in 88 days that the two casts usually sit in different gates.

ELA Map in Human Design mode showing only the lunar Nodes: Personality cast as solid lines and Design cast as dashed lines, no Chiron lines because Chiron is not part of the Human Design bodygraph

The Nodes in Human Design mode, nothing else showing. Solid lines are the Personality cast, dashed lines the Design cast. Chiron is absent on purpose: it is not part of the Human Design bodygraph, so it has no line here.

The map labels every Human Design line as Design or Personality. Read the label before you read the theme. And hold the doctrine line the Human Design guide holds: your bodygraph does not move when you do. A place amplifies a gate you already carry. It never hands you one you do not.

Your Node is not everyone's Node

Everything above is the general meaning of a Node line. Your own chart tunes it. In astrology, the Node's sign says how it goes about its business, its house says where in life it is rooted, and its dignity says how strong its hand is. A Node at home in its own sign carries a line differently from one in detriment. In Human Design the tuning is the gate and the line: which of the 64 gates Node sits in names the specific theme the line carries, and the line number, 1 to 6, says how that theme tends to play out. None of this changes where the line falls on the map. It changes what the line is about.

Two people with a North Node MC line through the same city. One has the North Node in Gate 7, The Role of the Self: the second half of life there is about being the one others elect to lead. The other has the North Node in Gate 33, Privacy: the same line is about withdrawal, reflection, and the power of remembered experience. Both are North Node MC. Read them alongside your age: before the Uranus opposition it is the South Node lines that describe the ground you are standing on.

ELA Map reads all of it. Tap any Node line and the panel shows the sign and house behind it; the heatmap reading shows how its dignity weighs in. Switch to Human Design mode and the same line shows its gate, its line number, and whether it came from the Design or the Personality side.

Reading them on your map

Point lines reward the same discipline as planet lines: check the angle first, then the proximity. And like every line, they gain the most meaning where they meet another line in a crossing. The deeper treatments live in the per-planet guides and the hub:

Yes. ELA Map includes Chiron and the North/South Nodes alongside the traditional ten bodies, computed from the same ephemeris data and drawn with the same four angle lines each. Turn them on and off with the same per-body filters as the planets.
